Amy Gibson receives several honors at William Woods University

2014 Jul 10

Amy Gibson of Kirksville, Mo., was recognized for her campus involvement during the Co-Curricular Honors Banquet at William Woods University.

Gibson, who graduated May 10 with a major in communications and minors in American Sign Language and art, received the Amy Shelton McNutt Award. The McNutt Award is given to the graduate whose consistency of purpose and selfless devotion to service were contributed without thought of reward and who best exemplifies the spirit and qualities of Amy Shelton McNutt, an alumna of William Woods in whose honor the award was named.

The Outstanding Senior award also went to Gibson. Previously she received the Outstanding Sophomore and Outstanding Junior awards. The Outstanding Student Awards are the only awards at William Woods University bestowed on students by the nomination and vote of other students. Nominees must demonstrate academic achievement, campus and community involvement and leadership.

In addition, Gibson was one of 16 William Woods University students named to the 2014 edition of "Who's Who among Students in American Universities and Colleges" based on being an outstanding campus leader. A campus nominating committee and editors of the annual directory choose the students based on academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.

By being listed in "Who's Who," she joins an elite group of students from more than 2,300 institutions of higher learning in all 50 states. Outstanding students have been honored in the annual directory since it was first published in 1934.

Active on campus, Gibson was freshman, sophomore, junior and senior class president of the Student Alumni Council; an active member and officer of Chi Omega; a Peer Mentor and University Ambassador and a member of the WWU Dance Team and Campus Crusade for Christ.

Gibson volunteered for several organizations, including the University of Missouri Children's Hospital, Children's Miracle Network, Make-a-Wish, Kingdom Projects sheltered workshop, and numerous Deaf community events in Fulton.

She also was selected for membership in Omicron Delta Kappa, leadership honor society, and Alpha Chi Honor Society, which recognizes academic achievement. Other honors included the Emerging Leader and Outstanding Junior Greek awards.
