Ilissa Facchini gets creative at WWU to celebrate International Education Week

2011 Nov 29

William Woods University's annual flag-making and essay contest gives students the opportunity to learn about a different country and get creative during International Education Week.

Each student is given the name of a country currently represented in WWU's student body and instructed to make a replica of that country's flag and write an essay about the country.

Ilissa Facchini of Tulare, Calif., was awarded second place for her Brazilian flag and essay.

"The flag contest is an activity intended to bring attention to International Education Week," Tara Deierling, WWU registrar, explained. "We hope that in doing the project, students learn more about their assigned country and enjoy coming up with a creative way to replicate the country's flag."
