Amy Gibson Named to William Woods Courtwarming Court

2014 Feb 28

William Woods University celebrated Courtwarming this year with a salute to the military. Incorporating the theme, "Red, White, and Blue at WWU," the members of Student Alumni Council (SAC) held a number of patriotic events during the week of Feb. 3-8.

Amy Gibson of Kirksville, Mo. was voted by peers to sit on the court as a potential Queen candidate.

Students enjoyed an all-American lunch in the dining hall, wrote thank you letters to soldiers and provided free admission to the basketball games for local veterans and their families. Students were encouraged to dress in an American-themed style each day during the festivities. Suggestions included Red, White and Blue; WWU Gear; Camo; and America.

According to Ben Struemph, Courtwarming chair, SAC members have combined new community outreach efforts with the traditions of WWU, including the pep rally and spirit dress days. During a pep rally and court games, students each donated two canned goods for SERVE to receive their Courtwarming t-shirt.

The king and queen were announced between the men's and women's basketball games Feb. 8. Nate Bitner was elected king and Lindsey Cornelius was elected queen. Members of the court were Cruz Buchanan, Alicia Delaney, A.J. Housewright, Darian Lightfoot, Ben Struemph, Amy Gibson, Alex Stear and Lacee Floyd.
