Jamie Lanagan Helps Teach Preschoolers About Trees

2013 Dec 19

Members of the Knowing the Woods Club at William Woods University recently presented a program about trees to the students at Fulton Preschool, located on the WWU campus. Jamie Lanagan of McKinney, Texas participated in the project.

The William Woods students provided an educational program and read Ken Robbins' book "Autumn Leaves" to the young students. They then used the book to identify the different leaves the kids brought in.

This was followed by a leaf rubbing craft project and a discussion of what happens when the leaves change colors.

"This project with the Knowing the Woods Club was a both a fun and educational enrichment activity for our preschoolers," Sue Beaty, Fulton Preschool director, said.

"The club members did a great job in helping the children observe the uniqueness and variety of a wide assortment of leaves. We thank them for sharing their time and knowledge with our little ones here at Fulton Preschool."

This was the fourth year members of Knowing the Woods presented a tree-related program to the preschoolers as a service-learning project. It is one of several activities that qualifies William Woods for the Tree Camps USA award.

"It's something that's really fun because we get to teach the kids a little bit about trees and they're pretty cute to hang out with for an hour or so," Brittany Lenhart of Eureka, Mo., club president, said.

Involved in the project with Lenhart were club members Sadie Herrick of Washington, Mo.; Shelby Cobb of Arcadia, Calif.; Rachel Ostrem of Radcliffe, Iowa; Jennie Parr of Hayward, Wis.; Hannah Mansell of Jacksonville, Ill.; and Jamie Lanagan of McKinney, Texas.
