Rachel Frabotta Inducted into New Athletic Training Society at WWU

Three William Woods University athletic training students have been selected as members of the university's newest honor society, Iota Tau Alpha.

Among the charter members is Rachel Frabotta of Sterling Heights, Mich.

The Iota Tau Alpha Honor Society was established to recognize and honor those individuals in the field of athletic training education who have through scholarship, integrity and outstanding achievement been a credit to their profession. The organization has 29 chapters across the nation and more than 500 contributing members.

The objective of Iota Tau Alpha is to foster a high standard of ethics and professional practices and to create a spirit of loyalty and fellowship, particularly around students of athletic training education.

Having the opportunity to have an Iota Tau Alpha chapter on campus is an accomplishment in itself, according to Anthony Lungstrum, director of the athletic training program.

"It is an honor to have been awarded a chapter of the national honor society. It demonstrates that our program is a high quality and challenging educational program."

Lungstrum explained that the program received its initial accreditation in April of 2004 and is one of only 11 undergraduate programs and one graduate program in Missouri.

"Our first-time pass rate on the Board of Certification exam for the last three years is 74 percent, which is above the national average," Lungstrum said. "For all attempts, our pass rate is 80 percent for the last three years."

He added, "We have some very bright students in our program that we want to recognize," Lungstrum said. "Right now we have 24 athletic training majors on campus."

To be eligible for membership, a student must have completed at least three semesters of academic work toward the athletic training degree, have completed at least three term courses in athletic training education (one, must be above introductory level) with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5, rank no lower than the highest 35 percent of their class in cumulative GPA, and be in good standing according to their program retention criteria.
