Rachel Frabotta among athletic training students who turned artists for a day

2014 Jun 16

When you think of athletic trainers, you usually think of the people who condition athletes and care for their injuries. At William Woods University, students studying athletic training became artists for a day.

Toward the end of the semester, five students in Cindy Robb's athletic training class enjoyed a sunny afternoon painting on Aldridge Patio.

Rachel Frabotta of Sterling Heights, Mich., was one of the students.

"The theme for our therapeutic modalities course has been the art and science of treating the injured athlete," said Robb, assistant professor of athletic training.

"Art professors Jane Mudd and Terry Martin taught the class members that, in art, there are many different treatments an artist can use to create art, and, though thoughtful consideration, the choices an artist makes result in different artistic pieces."

According to Robb, each athlete is unique and treatment must be individualized thoughtfully for best results.
